HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

It’s never too late to have a change of heart.

Be aware of the ways you can dramatically alter the course of your life and health by changing your
risk factors now. If you think you can’t, think again. You can add years to your life and quality to your years, just by making small changes each day.

Try one, or more of the following small steps to see big changes for a healthy heart, and find out how easy taking heart matters into your own hands can be!

THE BIG CHANGE THE SMALL STEP
Quit smoking Add the daily cost of your cigarettes to a jar labeled 'Cruise fund' and watch how fast the cost of a healthy vacation adds up.
Eat a healthy diet Remove one snack item from your diet each day and replace it with a piece of fruit.
Lose weight When dieting, allow yourself a free day once a week and go for the steak or chocolate cheesecake you want. Don't weigh yourself everyday.
Lower bad fats in your diet Switch from regular cheese and milk to 1%, you'll hardly notice the difference but your body will.
Lower salt in your diet Try using a variety of spice rubs or mixed seasoning additives where you'd use salt in cooking.
Control blood pressure Prescribe yourself 5 minutes of 'Heart Zone Out Time' at work, during which you let your mind think about only things that make you feel good! Take your meds if prescribed.
Reduce stress In traffic, keep a CD of music handy that you can sing along to, and do it. Smile at a driver stopped next to you, and mean it.
Increase your exercise Pick up your walking pace a half a step, and take the stairs whenever you have the choice.
Take an aspirin a day Proven to help keep blood clots from forming.
Make healthier decisions Think of your heart as a loyal friend, and really get to know it. Make yourself conscious of moments when you could make healthier choices...Are you being a good friend? Know possible heart attack symptoms.
