CARDIAC SYMPTOMS - Secondary Symptoms

Not every cardiac event plays out in the same way, especially in women where symptoms can mimic other less serious issues. The onset of symptoms can come and go, and we’re often reluctant to admit that something may be seriously wrong. Even minor symptoms can be a major hint that the heart is in distress, which is why it’s important to look out for and know some of the less obvious signs, too.

Less Common / Women’s Heart Attack Symptoms

As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, especially -

  1. Shortness of breath
  2. Nausea or vomiting
  3. Back or jaw pain or ‘cramps’

Other less common symptoms may include:

  1. Breaking out in a cold sweat
  2. A lightheaded sensation
  3. Fatigue

Commit these symptoms to memory, and even if you're not sure it's a heart attack, have it checked out. And, don’t wait more than five minutes to call 911.
